EU Announces Funding for SMEs in Intellectual Property Protection

The European Commission, in collaboration with the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and national intellectual property offices, is offering a new grant scheme for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) within the European Union. It is aimed at supporting the protection and enforcement of intellectual property rights.

Vouchers to Cover Costs

This year, EUIPO is issuing four different vouchers that enable SMEs to cover the costs of various intellectual patch services:

  • IP Scan Enforcement: This voucher covers 90% of the value of services related to the enforcement of intellectual property rights. Maximum amount of 810 euros.
  • Trademarks and Designs: This voucher covers up to 75% of the costs for protection at the national, regional, or European level and up to 50% of costs at the international level. Maximum value of up to 1,000 euros.
  • Patents: Co-financing up to 75% of the costs for national and European protection and inquiries, and up to 50% of legal costs for European patent applications. Maximum amount of up to 2,000 euros.
  • Plant Variety Rights: Up to 75% of the costs for the protection of plant varieties at the Community level. The highest possible amount is 1,500 euros.

Who are the Vouchers for?

The vouchers are intended for SMEs with the aim of improving their competitive position through the proper protection of their innovations and creative solutions. A particularly highlighted new feature this year is the IP Scan Enforcement voucher. This voucher is aimed at advising companies facing infringements or accusations of intellectual property violations.

SMEs can apply for the vouchers at EUIPO until the allocated funds are exhausted or at the latest by December 6, 2024.
